Sometimes it’s the little things that make the biggest impact on our lives. But, bear in mind that change doesn’t happen overnight and it takes some dedication. If you’re ready to start living a healthier, happier life, here’s a list of things to make it happen - starting today!

First things first - It’s all in your head. Realise that you have the power to change your life by changing your mind-set. We all have the ability to choose our paths, reach our goals, and build our ideal lives. The challenge is in BELIEVING you can (saying all this, I realise that sometimes I should probably take my own advise, at least that’s what my mom and my sister would probably say when they read this 😂 - love you both).

1. Laugh Your Ass Off! (this is literally my favourite point)

If you're the kind of person who has ever had a laughing fit, the kind where you feel like you might burst or pee, you are probably already aware of the benefits it has. Laughter reduces stress, and the best part? It’s easy to come by. Watch a funny movie, spend time with people who bring out your worst laugh, and have you rolling in the aisles.

2. Eat One (more) Serving Of Fruit

Fruit is literally incr-edible 😏 (okay I’m sorry this was a really bad pun, I’m not funny, but lets move on 😂). Seriously, give yourself the gift of eating a single serving of your favourite fruit, fresh or frozen (but not canned) once a day. You get fibre, nutrients etc. Find a way to incorporate your favourite fruit into your day. You can even trick your mind into thinking it’s your dessert, instead of having chocolate or other unhealthy options (now I don’t mean to say you should cut out cake, ice-cream or sweets entirely, obviously, just have controlled portions that’s all) . It’s a treat AND a healthy choice.

3. Smile More

Now, I know it can be hard to smile when you don’t feel happy, but conjuring up happy thoughts and really putting on a (sincerely) happy face can better your mood and the moods of those around you (you do’t want to be that person who affects everyone else’s mood in a negative way).

4. Take A Hot Bath

It can help lower your blood sugar, relax aching muscles, and help you sleep better. It’s not something that should be done every single day, but after a long walk or a long stressful day at work, a good, long soak in the tub can be just what the doctor ordered (and if you want to spice things up a bit get yourself a glass of wine too. I heard it’s got some health benefits 🙄).

And to my final point (this is something I always joked about with my friends at uni, but let's face it, it was a bloody great idea, even though it was realistically not possible).

5. Adopt A Pet

Assuming you have the financial ability and living situation that makes this possible, having a pet can be a wonderful experience. Look first for animals at shelters that need homes, rather than buying from pet stores or illegal breeders. Let’s face it, you’re all probably already thinking it, animals are better than humans 😂! Saying all this, even just visiting a pet cafe for a while, will 100% increase your happiness.

But on a serious note, these are just small changes that can easily be made (for the most part). It’s now up to you to make that decision. Believe in yourself and your ability to change, and you will (this being with the above points, or something you’ve been meaning to change for ages).

Love, Kristine xx
